Twenty years ago Claire Scott's eldest sister, Julia, went missing. No one knew where she went - no note, no body. It was a mystery that was never solved and it tore her family apart. Now another girl has disappeared, with chilling echoes of the past. And it seems that she might not be the only one. Claire is convinced Julia's disappearance is linked. But when she begins to learn the truth about her sister,…

I was so excited to tuck into this one. I have been hearing about it for years. Everyone said it was super fucked up.

It’s definitely fucked up. But when you’re a fan of the super demented, it takes a lot to rattle you.The plot is pretty simple, but it took a good 250 pages to set things up and I almost gave up on it. I don’t think this level of set up was necessary, the characters aren’t that complex. I prefer to jump into the action and if you’re gonna hold it hostage with lots of setup, then the goods better be worth it. I don’t know that they were in this case.

The writing was fine, descriptions were good, plot was good and well thought out. Pacing is where I have the most criticism. It’s definitely a stop and go thriller rather than a fast-paced can’t put it down kind of situation.

Overall I thought it was pretty good. Absolutely worth hanging in there for. Slaughter even wraps things up nicely with a little feel good humanity is resilient bow. Some aftercare for the more skittish readers out there.
